Established in 1969, Sundance Resort is the manifestation of Robert Redford’s effort to create a retreat for recreation, the arts, and preservation of the beauty and spirit of the American West. D. R. Horne & Company (DRH) served as project manager to develop and implement a plan to reposition the resort and pursue opportunities to expand the cultural activities that distinguish the Sundance resort brand.
The master plan included:
- Protection of approximately 5,000 acres
- Limited and low-impact residential and hospitality development in carefully selected areas
- A financial model to drive the commercial operation while supporting the not-for-profit Sundance Preserve.
The first phase of new building, Founders Ridge at Sundance, consisted of an intimate community of residences, civic and gathering spaces, amenities, recreation and entertainment areas on the premier ridgeline above Sundance Village. DRH directed planning, permitting, and construction activities, and negotiated the sale of the project to a strategic buyer.
