Sundance

Sundance, Utah

Established in 1969, Sundance Resort is the manifestation of Robert Redford’s effort to create a retreat for outdoor recreation, the arts, and preservation of the beauty and spirit of the American West. Douglas Horne has worked closely with Mr. Redford at Sundance since 2002 in an advisory and planning capacity. He served as project director to develop and implement a master plan to reposition the resort and pursue opportunities to expand the cultural activities that distinguish the Sundance resort brand.  In that capacity, he developed a residential enclave on a prominent ridgeline, thereby setting the tone for future expansion of the Resort.  In 2020, Douglas and his partners at The Working Group advised and managed the sale of Sundance Mountain Resort to Broadreach Capital Partners and Cedar Capital Partners. DRH identified and engaged with the buyers to explore ways to thoughtfully build upon the legacy of the resort. Broadreach and Cedar will advance the master plan to preserve and enhance the resort experience and Redford legacy, with protection of approximately 5,000 acres, limited and low-impact residential and hospitality development, and a financial model to drive the commercial operation and help support the not-for-profit Sundance Preserve.
